Online Participation

Procedures for the access to the participation tools (Short Version)

1) Inside the Conferences

1.1) Email

Sending emails will be the tool used to interact with the actual participants.

a) Format

Those who are signed up for the on line participation will be able to hear the audio transmission of the Circles alive, and will be able to participate by sending questions to the speakers via email. The questions will be analyzed beforehand, according to the order of submission and relevancy to the subjects discussed, and can be made at the end of the conference. The questions will be considered if made in one of the following languages: Portuguese, Spanish, English, French and Italian. (Depending on the number of emails received, the messages will be answered afterwards by the speakers).

b) Technical procedures

- Open your email box

- Send an email to conferencia@forumpaulofreire.org

- The email must contain the following informations:

=> Complete name of the sender.
=> Name of the city or country.
=> Name of the conference to which you want to send the question.
=> Name of the speaker to which the question makes reference.
=> The question itself.

2) Inside the Culture Circles

2.1) Chat

The on line participants will sign up for one of the eight Circles and will listen to the audio transmission. They will be part of another Circle, virtual, between those who follows the same Circle. This will be made by a chat which we call "Dialog room". The on line participants can discuss between themselves subjects mentioned in the actual Circle, while following the discussions, or any other subjects of their interest.

Each Circle will have a "facilitator", from the the Forum Paulo Freire's team, who will have the same tasks than the Coordinator of the actual Culture Circle: he will promote the debate and will help the group out in its discussion inside the "Dialog Room". After all the work presentations in the actual circles, the participants of the Dialog Rooms will be able to send questions, which will be taken to the Culture Circle.

a) Format

All the on line debate will happen via written dialogs in the chat rooms. Those who don't have an user can only visualize the chat. Those who already have created an user will be able to visualize the chat, interact with the participants of the room and also with the participants in the proper moment.

The dialog in the virtual rooms will happen simultaneously to the Culture Circle. In the end of each session, the "facilitator" will compile the subjects and questions made by the on line participants in the dialog room and will present them to the actual Culture Circle. During all the sessions, the long-distance participants will be able to send their questions to a mail address of the Culture Circle that they are following.

We ask for the long-distance participants to choose one Circle whose thematic is related to their personal interests and to remain, during the two days, in the same Circle. This will make possible the enrichment of the debate during the sessions. We remind the users that the Dialog Room will follow the principles of the actual Culture Circles.

The audio transmission of the Culture Circle will be made only in Portuguese; the "facilitators" of the Dialog Rooms will not make any translations of the audio.

b.2) Changing the standard language in the chat room

When accessing the chat room, the system will present as standard the English version of the website. If you prefer the exhibition in Portuguese, click on the name referring to the desired language at the left side of the page, right under the Forum Paulo Freire's log. If done so, the language will become the standard for all the rooms in the Forum accessed by this computer.

b.3) Creating an user and a password

In order to interact with the participants in the Dialog Room and with the actual participants of the Forum, you need to create a login and password which are linked to the room you want to take part of.

Obs: your user created for the "X Room" can not be used in the "Room Y". You must create a new login to take part of a different room.

We strongly recommend that you choose only one Circle to take part of. The constant change of Circle may cause a loss in the dynamics and in the discussions of the Circle of which you are participating.

To create a login and password, the first thing to do is click on "You need to register to be able to chat".

By clicking on it, two blank spaces will appear in the right-hand side: Nick and E-Mail. The "Nick" is the name or nickname you wish to use in the chat room and the email address will be used to send the password for the access (be aware of making any mistakes on typing the email address, since it can send your password to a different address).

Finally, click on "Register". By doing so, one window will open up informing the situation of you login creation and, if the registration is completed successfully, one password will be generated automatically (write the password down instantaneously).

After having made successfully your registration, it's time to access the chat. To enter the chat, click on login in the bottom-left side and put your "Nick" (Login) and the password generated.

Finally, after having typed your login and password, click on "enter".

In case you have typed correctly your Login and Password, you'll be able to visualize the messages and also to write in the text box localized right under your name.

b.3) Additional Resources

In case of need, it is also possible to change your exhibition picture in the right area by clicking on the "Exhibition Picture" and sending a file with the photo.

In the box localized at the right hand side, is also available the tools "Nick Colors" (to change the color of your nick's exhibition), to add "smiles" or to change your password that was generated automatically by our system.
